The spark for my passion in people management first ignited during my university years, when I served as treasurer and executive member of our business club. Overnight, I became the go-to person for resolving team disputes, aligning project goals, and managing a complex web of stakeholders, each with their own perspectives and priorities. Relying on intuition and a genuine commitment to my colleagues, I guided the team through this period of uncertainty. It was during these high-stakes moments that the pieces finally fell into place: my passion for managing people was not just a passing interest—it was the foundation of my career path. I knew then that I wanted to dedicate myself to a field where I could not only manage people but foster environments where they could thrive, grow, and achieve their best.

My career journey in HR has been a progressive path of growing responsibilities and increasing impact. Currently, as an HR Business Partner at British American Tobacco, I lead initiatives that align our regional and global HR strategies to facilitate an exceptional workplace culture at one of BAT’s flagship manufacturing sites. The curriculum’s emphasis on international management, competitive strategy, and problem-solving in diverse environments directly aligns with my goal of becoming a global business leader. The tailored curriculum will provide me with the tools to develop strategies that adapt to uncertainty and leverage opportunities in international markets. I am particularly drawn to the applied research pathway, which offers the chance to work on real-world challenges with a New Zealand business organization. This hands-on experience will allow me to build on my practical knowledge while refining my analytical and problem-solving skills. Working with peers from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds will also enhance my ability to address challenges in multicultural and dynamic settings. In the future, I aim to take on leadership roles in global business or management consulting, where I can apply innovative strategies to improve organizational efficiency and growth. I believe the MCom program will provide the expertise and global perspective I need to succeed in these roles and advance my career.

Upon completing the Master of Commerce program with a specialization in Global Management and Innovation, my immediate goal is to secure a role within a multinational organization or a consulting firm where I can contribute to strategic projects and solve complex business challenges. I am particularly interested in positions that involve navigating global markets, managing diverse teams, and developing innovative strategies to enhance organizational performance. In the long term, I aspire to establish myself as a business consultant specializing in global management and strategy. I envision advising organizations on critical areas such as market expansion, cross-cultural leadership, and operational efficiency. By leveraging the skills and insights gained through this program, I aim to help businesses adapt to evolving global trends and seize opportunities in competitive environments.
Reflecting on my journey so far, I see a thread that connects every step, from my early experiences in people management during university to my roles in strategic HR and workforce transformation. The Master of Commerce program offers the perfect platform to refine these abilities and prepare for the complexities of global business. I am eager to commit myself in the program’s collaborative learning environment, gain fresh insights, and contribute meaningfully to the university community.
