My first encounter with a marketing course in higher secondary school opened my eyes to the dynamic strategies that shape consumer behavior and drive business success. I found myself captivated by the transformative power of marketing. It was during a deep dive into digital marketing case studies that I realized the profound impact of data-driven strategies in today’s digital world. This discovery sparked my passion for marketing analytics, leading me to major in Marketing during my undergraduate studies.
Inspired by this newfound interest, I chose marketing as my major during my undergraduate studies. This decision allowed me to immerse myself deeply in the theories and practical applications of marketing. I was particularly drawn to the analytical aspects of marketing, including understanding consumer behavior and using data for informed decisions. During my undergraduate studies at Jagannath University in Dhaka, Bangladesh, I majored in Marketing, where I achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.57 out of 4.00. My coursework was extensive and included various marketing and business management subjects that provided a solid foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical application. Although my studies were impacted by the COVID pandemic, which delayed my final exams until 2023 and resulted in my degree being officially conferred in 2024, my certificate reflects the completion date as 02July, 2024.
My undergraduate thesis, "Factors Influencing Online Purchase Intention: A Study on Electronics Home Appliances," was a direct result of my desire to understand the complexities of consumer behavior in the digital marketplace. In this research, I utilized SPSS software to perform data analysis, drawing on data collected through Google Forms from respondents of various ages, occupations, and income levels. This thesis focused on Rangs Electronics Ltd., a leading company in Bangladesh known for its strategic approaches in the consumer electronics industry. The study explored the factors influencing online purchase intentions for electronics home appliances, an area that intersects my interest in digital marketing and analytics. Through this research, I did a comprehensive analysis involving consumer behavior, technological trends, and market dynamics. I conducted surveys, performed data analysis, and synthesized the findings to understand better how online platforms and digital strategies can be leveraged to enhance customer engagement and drive sales. As part of my academic journey, I co-authored a research paper titled "The Role of AI in Enhancing Customer Engagement and Loyalty". This paper explores the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, such as machine learning and natural language processing, in shaping customer engagement strategies. Our research focus was into finding how AI-driven personalization can enhance customer loyalty and satisfaction by providing tailored experiences. This project deepened my understanding of AI's practical marketing applications and solidified my interest in data analytics for business strategies.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have been working as a Trainee Officer in Digital Marketing at Rangs Electronics Ltd. since April 2024. In this role, I have been responsible for planning and executing digital marketing campaigns aimed at enhancing brand visibility and expanding the company’s online reach. My responsibilities include managing social media platforms to increase engagement, developing content for various digital platforms, and implementing strategies to boost audience interaction. Additionally, I monitor performance metrics to optimize campaign outcomes and ensure that our digital marketing efforts align with the company’s broader objectives. Throughout my time, I have demonstrated professionalism, innovation, and a strong commitment to my role, making significant contributions to the marketing team. This experience has deepened my understanding of digital marketing strategies and equipped me with the practical skills needed to thrive in the field of marketing analytics.
The University of Maryland's Master of Science in Marketing Analytics program at the Robert H. Smith School of Business is the ideal choice to connect my academic background with my professional aspirations in marketing analytics. The program’s curriculum aligns with my goal of becoming a skilled marketing analyst capable of leveraging data-driven strategies to address complex business challenges. Courses like Marketing Strategy, Customer Analysis, and Marketing Research and Analytics (BUMK744) offer a solid foundation in strategic marketing and customer behavior, while advanced courses such as Statistical Programming for Customer Analytics sharpen my technical skills in data analysis.
The program's focus on hands-on learning, especially through the Action Learning Project provides an opportunity to apply theory to real-world scenarios by collaborating with companies like Amazon, Adobe, and Deloitte. I am eager to engage in these projects to gain practical experience and develop innovative solutions. Additionally, the distinguished faculty at the Smith School, recognized for their expertise in marketing analytics and consumer behavior, is another key factor in my decision. Learning from accomplished professors like Bo “Bobby” Zhou and Michel Wedel will offer valuable knowledge and mentorship. Moreover, the strong alumni network and the school’s proximity to major business hubs provide exceptional opportunities for professional growth and networking, fostering a supportive environment to advance my career.
I aim to build a marketing career in Bangladesh, a country undergoing significant economic growth and business expansion. As the market evolves, there is a rising demand for experts who can harness data-driven marketing strategies to drive business success. I am excited to contribute to this dynamic landscape by applying the skills and knowledge I gain from the MS in Marketing Analytics program.
My immediate goal is to secure a job in Bangladesh where I can apply my knowledge of marketing analytics and gain a deeper understanding of the Bangladeshi market. This experience will allow me to learn about local consumer behavior and market dynamics, which are crucial for implementing effective data-driven marketing strategies. In the long term, I aim to join my family's IT business, and utilize my skills to drive growth and innovation. By leveraging advanced analytics and tools like Python, R, and Tableau, I plan to enhance our digital presence, improve customer engagement, and develop predictive models to optimize our marketing strategies and overall business performance. Courses such as Marketing Strategy and Business Policies and Ethics will provide me with strategic insights to develop sustainable marketing practices that align with our company’s values. Ultimately, I aim to transform my family's IT business into a market leader and advance the marketing profession in Bangladesh, leveraging the expertise gained from the University of Maryland’s program to make a significant impact.
From my first marketing course to my research and practical experiences, my passion for marketing analytics has only deepened. The University of Maryland's MS in Marketing Analytics program is the ideal next step to refine my skills and apply data-driven strategies effectively. In the short term, I aim to gain experience in Bangladesh’s market, learning to navigate local consumer behavior and market dynamics. In the long term, I plan to join my family's IT business, to drive innovation and growth using advanced analytics. This program will enable me to bring my journey full circle, turning my passion into impactful action in both my career and the marketing field in Bangladesh.
